Mark 10:21
Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go they way, sell whatsover thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

Be careful to read this verse in context. I don't think Jesus was saying we can earn salvation by being nice to poor people. Consider instead His explanation in verse 24 of the same chapter: "[H]ow hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!"
