Isaiah 9:14, 17
Therefore the Lord will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day...
Therefore the Lord shal have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

My Pilgrim Edition (2 ed. 1952) has the following footnote on v. 14:
"Rushes grew in the swampy low places of the land. As branch stood for the well-to-do classes, so rush stood for the poor of the land: head and tail--rich and poor--all would have judgment visited upon them."
This passage is not exactly in the same vein as the others listed--quite sobering in fact. But the last phrase highlights our true mission: it is not necessarily the poor as a class we are called to, it is to people, poor or otherwise, since spiritual assets do not correspond with physical assets.
